Changing Habits
By Chris Gallagher
In my quest to live greener, here are a few bits I've picked up and thought useful enough to pass on...
A recent article in the NY Times explored farmer's markets in CT with a special focus on the challenges and benefits of holding winter markets. If the farmer doesn't know about the opportunity months in advance there are no seeds planted and no produce to sell. Hopefully as the winter markets gain support we can all expect to have fresh produce throughout the year.
Also check out this short film about Doug Fine who is an environmental journalist for NPR that took a full year to try and live as 'green' as possible. He wrote a book about the experience called Farewell, My Subaru.
After you've changed the light bulbs, switched to a hybrid, put those solar panels on your roof and started composting in all your closets, there still might come a time when you just need to get away from it all and take a vacation. Or maybe you're flying to another part of the world for an eco-conference, or to help a country ravaged by disaster. That flight creates a great deal of CO2, and a way to rectify that is by carbon offset. CarbonFund will help you give back.
New ways to visualize energy use is the topic in this NY Times article . The focus here is on how by changing the way we see our energy usage, we become more likely to change our habits.
