An interesting element of this concept is that it appears to be very viable. With the emergence of car sharing, house swapping, and other community driven sharing programs - it seems we're well on our way. This video does a great job at creating additional context and broadens the applicability of this concept beyond the home to the work place.
I only needed to open the door a few days ago to my child's gymnasium and take one whiff of the newly polished floor to be reminded of how much work still needs to be done to create awareness, turn inaction into action and create real change when it comes to the toxic environment our children are exposed to.
And while I may not be able to instantly control what school administrators put on floors, on the lunch menu, or on the school yards - I can create change to the degree I feel comfortable, have time for or feel compelled.
Healthy Child, Healthy World is a stand up organization helping keep "conscious" parents like me well informed so I can make sound choices on behalf of my children.
350.org is calling on people around the world to organize an action on
October 24, 2009 incorporating the number 350 at an iconic place in their
community, and then upload a photo of their event to 350.org website.
They'll collect these images from around the world and, with
your help, deliver them to the media and world leaders.

The cleaning products we use in our homes contain pesticides, neurotoxins and other poisons that are giving us cancer, respiratory illness, ADHD and more. Pets and children are particularly sensitive, as their systems are still developing. And after they're finished wreaking havoc on us in our homes, they make their way to our water supply. Did you know that you can't just throw away your laundry detergent because it's considered HAZARDOUS WASTE?!
PACE is a GREAT organization to get involved in Connecticut and a wonderful resource, should you have questions and/or want to organize an effort in your neighborhood!
